Death Row Rescue Fund

By donating towards the rescue of a dog from death row, you are doing more than just making a monetary donation - you are literally giving a dog a second chance at life!

What is Death Row Rescue?

When we talk about "death row," we are referring to animals that have found their way to a shelter that euthanizes animals for which they cannot find homes. Some shelters are considered "high kill" shelters, which means that they euthanize a large number of animals each year. Many of these "high kill" shelters are so crowded they only keep animals for the 72-hour period that is required by law. As soon as the 72 hours have passed, animals at those shelters are euthanized. MHAF is contacted by dozens of these shelters each week as they look to avoid euthanizing animals, and we do our best to rescue as many as we possibly can.

Why does it cost money to rescue from death row?

Each time MHAF rescues a dog from one of these shelters we have to pay a "pull-fee"; this is a fee that a pound charges in order for us to save the dog and it can range from $30 to $60. These fees help fund those shelters, which are often poorly funded agencies. In addition to the pull-fee we then must provide medical care for each animal (which can add up to hundreds of dollars), pay for boarding and supplies as part of the animal's everyday care. These expenses add up quickly.

How can I help?

Although the outlook for these animals seems bleak, you can help make a difference in the volume of live saving work we can do! Donate to the Death Row Rescue Fund; each donation will go directly to rescuing dogs from death row and transporting them to a safe haven with MHAF.

Each person that donates to this fund will have their name included with the dog's description on our website so that everyone knows you are an animal lover and rescue supporter.
